Cost of Appeals and Complaints to the Ombudsman
PERUSAL OF DOCUMENTS If it is necessary to peruse documents before the consultation, such as a draft submission to the Appeal Panel, correspondence, reports, application forms or information from the Local Authority there is an additional, minimum charge of £30.00. The cost is dependant on the complexity and length of the documents to be perused. CONSULTATIONS FOR ADMISSION APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS TO THE OMBUDSMAN The cost of a consultation by telephone for up to one hour is £95.00. The cost of the telephone consultation and the perusal of documents is payable before the consultation. A cost of a face-to-face consultation for up to one is hour £105.00. The cost of the telephone consultation and the perusal of documents is payable at the time of the consultation. An additional charge is made for consultations lasting longer than one hour: Consultations out of normal office hours and at weekends incur a supplementary charge of £10.00. The above charges include a brief preliminary discussion by telephone before the consultation. ADDITIONAL WORK If you would like more assistance after the consultation (for example if you want a document to be written or amended) this work is charged at £85.00 an hour. The fee to redraft or write a document is payable before the work commences. If another consultation is required this is charged at the consultation rate outlined above. REPRESENTATION AT AN APPEAL Representation at an Appeal hearing is £300.00 for a half a day and £550.00 for a full day. Travel by car to and from the appeal costs £0.70 per mile. COST OF COMPLAINTS TO THE OMBUDSMAN The cost of submitting a Complaint to the Ombudsman will depend on the complexity of the case and how many hours it takes to prepare the complaint document. Writing a Complaint to the Ombudsman is a complicated and time consuming task. It is unusual for it to take less than 4 hours to complete and most take considerably longer. This work is charged at £85.00 per hour. An estimated fee is payable before the work commences. In addition to writing the Complaint to the Ombudsman it is usually necessary to have at least 2 consultations to discuss the case. Please refer above for the cost of consultations.
